Kobi Okoye has over 10 years of experience as a soccer coach. With formal education and certifications from Nigeria, England, and the U.S., Kobi has an arsenal of coaching principles that have enabled him to assume coaching roles in youth, professional, and semi-professional levels of soccer in various countries.
Kobi has had a passion for coaching since his youth.
Growing up, he always played recreationally, and for his high school. He took on the role of Assistant Coach for his college team in Nigeria before moving on to sports journalism, covering the journey of the Nigerian National Team at the Olympics and the World Cup in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
In 2013, he attained his FA coaching badges in Sunderland and Durham (England) and worked with the Sunderland Association Football Club under Gus Poyet as a Data / Video Analyst for the First Team and the U21 team. Additionally, during that time, he earned a master’s degree with a distinctive pass in Sport and Exercise Sciences while coaching the second team at the University of Sunderland.
Kobi loves mentoring players on the training field and is genuinely passionate about coaching. He believes in communicating openly with his players and fostering leadership from within the group. In addition to wanting players to take ownership and be accountable for their outcomes, he believes they should also be able to express themselves within the given framework of any team. Kobi Okoye is excited to be part of Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds.
